Finding Happiness in Healthcare
Working in healthcare is hard. The documentation, back-to-back patient visits where you feel like a robot treating people on an assembly line, dealing with prior authorizations and insurance denials, the list goes on.
Many of us are burning out and feeling disillusioned about our careers.
As a nurse practitioner, you might truly believe in what you do. Perhaps you invested several years of your life and commonly a 6-figure student loan to do this. Or perhaps you genuinely can't imagine doing anything else with your life because you have a huge, noble heart and love helping people.
Each day is a chance to find happiness in healthcare.
This is the podcast for nurse practitioners and other medical providers who truly believe in what they do and want to create more meaning in their work.
Finding Happiness in Healthcare
I Would’ve Found Happiness in Healthcare Sooner If I Knew This
If you’re a nurse practitioner, let me ask you a question:
Do you stare at your 6-figure student loan, and think to yourself, “This will take forever to pay off!”
Do you drive to the clinic or hospital every morning and think to yourself, “Just X more years until I get this tuition debt paid off.”
When you look at your schedule for the day, do you just see names in 20 minute slots whose notes you need to write up then sign so you can get reimbursed by the insurance to pay your monthly payment?
Do you look at your life, and wonder, “Is this it? Is this my life for the next 30 years, a never-ending cycle of counting the days? In fact, I have to save and hoard 50 PTO hours just to spend the holidays with my family this year. When do I get to feel like I’m enjoying my life on my own time?”
If so, then you’re in the right place. Today I’m going to tell you the one thing I wish I knew sooner and helped me find happiness practicing in healthcare.
